Often we are asked about the difference between Tixi Alarm Modems and "normal" modems and the difference to fault indication units of other manufacturers.
Tixi Alarm Modem is more than just a modem.
It is a
communication computer with PSTN, ISDN or GSM phone interface which can process certain actions on various triggers (events).
In addition we inserted
PLC communication protocols of different manufacturers into the Alarm Modem, e.g. Mitsubishi, Siemens, Moeller, SAIA, as well as open protocols like Modbus or M-Bus.
Events are:
- Changes of built-in digital IOs
- Changes of variables of a connected PLC
- Scheduler
- Received messages
Actions are:
- Switching the built-in outputs
- Writings variables of a connected PLC
- Logging of data, e.g., from the PLC
- Sending of messages via SMS, email, fax and pager
"Normal" modems have made no development in the past 20 years , because Windows has controled everything on the PC.
A modem is like an ancient phone:
- it can dial only one phone number
- and then lead through everything what comes.
Thereafter a PC does almost the rest.
A "normal" modem can do nothing by itself.
A Tixi alarm Modem does everything by itself!
It automatically sends e-mails, faxes, SMS and can
talk to a lot of PLCs with theire specific "language".
Therefore a PLC can send emails - without need to change the PLC program.
Tixi Alarm Modems are programed via "internet language" XML
- and not with ancient AT commands.
(A Tixi Alarm Modem understands these AT commands only in the simple "modem mode".)
