Users of SAIA-PCD often have problems to properly connect an Alarm Modem because of the multiplicity of PCD-interfaces and protocols.
To get the functionality of variable monitoring (alarms, logging etc.) and even remote access to the PLC, we recommend following setup:
Connect the PCD with the PGU-Port (S0) and a Gender-Changer (male/male) and a 1:1 serial cable without (!) DSR-Line (remove PIN6) to the COM1 of the Alarm Modems.
If you want to use COM2 of the Alarm Modem (recommended!), put an additional Tixi Red Adapter into COM2.
A self made cable should have following pin layout:
TAM COM2 <-> PCD2 PGU
DSUB9-F <-> DSUB9-M
1 - x
2 - 3
3 - 2
4 - x
5 - 5
6 - 4
7 - 8
8 - 7
9 - x
With this setup the Alarm Modem can monitor the PLC using S-Bus protocol. Additionally you can use the transparent mode to access the PCD using the PG5 software (using S-Bus protocol, not PGU protocol!).
Theoretically the Alarm Modem may be connected to one of the other PCD ports S1 or S2 for variable monitoring.
COM1/2 at S1/S2:
2-RxD-------RxD-12/32
3-TxD-------TxD-11/31
5-GND------GND-10/30
COM2-485 at S1/S2:
1-GND-------GND-10/35
4-R(-)--------RX-TX-11/36
5-R(+)-------/RX-/TX-12/37
But if you need remote access to the PLC, we recommend the connection to the PGU port.
